The University of Exeter took part once more in Posters in Parliament, sending student presenters of two posters to the event in the Houses of Parliament and Portcullis House on Wednesday 5th March. Following an internal competition to select the two best posters, the University of Exeter was represented by:
- Emily Bennett, 4th Year Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery, Truro: "Human Health Effects from Inhalation of Sea Spray during Harmful Algal Blooms: A Scoping Systematic Review"
- Jed Cornwall-Jones, 3rd Year BSc Mathematics, Exeter: "Is the Sun Responsible for Whales Strandings on UK Beaches?"
Accompanying Jed on the day was Pierce Broderick, one of the other student authors of the poster which was based on research from a group project, and Dr Claire Foullon, Senior Lecturer and project tutor. The student presenters met delegates from over 25 other UK universities at the poster exhibition held in Portcullis House, and spoke with numerous Members of Parliament and Peers, including Steve Race, MP for Exeter, and Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire.
The students were also able to take part in activities throughout the Parliamentary estate on the day, which included a behind-the-scenes tour of the inner workings of Parliament, as well as spend time watching the processions of the Speaker and MPs for Prime Ministers' Questions, and live debates from the public gallery of the House of Lords.
