Externally-funded Fellowship Applications - EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

We welcome enquiries from excellent researchers who wish to submit a fellowship application to an external funder (for example UKRI, Wellcome Trust, Royal Society) and be hosted by the MRC Centre of Medical Mycology. We recommend that you first contact the Centre, or an individual academic to discuss your ideas. Vacancies

4-year fully funded MRes-PhD studentships

Applications are now open for our bespoke fully funded four-year MRes-PhD programme that provides a broad interdisciplinary training that is not available anywhere else in the world. Students recruited will spend their first year undertaking a formal MRes degree in Medical Mycology and Fungal Immunology. On successful completion of their MRes degree, students will then choose their PhD research project from a selection offered by MRC CMM members. These projects will be cross-disciplinary, involve at least two MRC CMM members, and will address our research themes. Students also receive additional research skills training, personal and career development opportunities, funding for travel to conferences and workshops, and support from mentors who provide independent career advice.

Licenced Animal Technician

The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology wishes to recruit a full-time Experienced Animal Technician (rodents) to work with academic and technical staff in the University’s rodent Biological Services Units (BSU). This will include assisting with animal experimentation and monitoring, helping to train students, assistants and colleagues and helping to prepare and submit study plans, risk assessments and SOPs. The post holder will be part of both the MRC CMM and BSU teams whose primary function will be in supporting the operational needs of a multitude of research projects in the MRC CMM, including the day-to-day husbandry of the animals.

Project administrator

We are looking for an experience administrator to provide administrative support for the new FAILSAFE project (Fungal AMR Innovations for LMICS: Solutions and Access For Everyone - https://cmm-failsafe.com/) led by Profs Gordon Brown, Director, and Elaine Bignell, Co-Director (Research) of the MRC CMM. The post holder must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to effectively liaise with the Project team, partners, stakeholders, the Centre Directors and Manager, research staff and students as well as the wider academic and professional services teams involved in the delivery of the project aims and objectives. The post holder must be able to plan, prioritise, provide administrative support and work efficiently on a varied workload and be able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility. The position will work closely with the FAILSAFE Project Manager and is central to the running of the project.

Impact and Partnership Development Manager

We are looking for an experienced individual who will to drive and support industry business and partnership engagement within the new FAILSAFE project led by Profs Gordon Brown, Director, and Elaine Bignell, Co-Director (Research) of the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM). The role holder will identify and develop new business opportunities and plan, initiate and deliver key strategic business development projects by working closely with academic staff and partners across the project. The post-holder will also contribute to the strategic and operational requirements of the study, support the extensive network of academic and industry partnerships needed to deliver the work, oversee the distribution of funds, outputs, lead on stakeholder and partner engagement, support the commercialisation pipeline including liaising with experts support as required, and co-ordinate communications, budgets, and the internal and external reporting as deemed necessary.
