The University is an independent corporation, whose legal status derives from a Royal Charter granted in 1955. With the approval of Council and Senate the University submitted requests to the Privy Council to make revisions to its Charter and Statutes - the amendments were allowed on 17th April 2017, 7th November 2012, 10th January 2012, 1st September 2010 and 16th August 2010.
