I enjoyed studying in Exeter because of its unique location in Devon. To me nature is very important to keep in balance and I think this is an extremely beautiful area.
About the Doctoral College
A world-class research hub
We are particularly committed to encouraging new ideas and nurturing talent at the University of Exeter, and as such we boast an extremely high number of early career researchers. Thirty per cent of our academic staff are early career researchers currently, a much greater proportion than most other universities, and postgraduate research students contributed to more than a third of research papers published by Exeter academics since 2010, making them absolutely key to our research success. This makes the University of Exeter one of the very best places to pursue postgraduate and early career research.
The University of Exeter Doctoral College brings together institution-wide support, training, and administration for all of our postgraduate and early career researchers. The Doctoral College works across all six Academic Colleges within the University as well as key Professional Services, to ensure that postgraduate and early career researchers have an outstanding start to their research careers.
The Doctoral College is world-class research hub, committed to a vibrant research culture and community, to sector-leading training and development, and to providing outstanding facilities and resources.

Welcome to the University of Exeter and our Doctoral College. We are the fastest growing research intensive university in the UK and ranked 16th out of 134 universities in the national Research Excellence Framework (REF), taking account of our quality and the proportion of staff submitted.
My role is to lead the Doctoral College to ensure you have the best experience when undertaking your research with us. This website and the pages linked to from it will hopefully give you a flavour of the research expertise undertaken, what it’s like to work or pursue a research degree with us, along with the practicalities of how to search for funding and apply.
Many universities talk about the strength of their research and support they offer staff and students – but few can offer the quality of life and truly exceptional research strength across a breadth of subjects we offer. It’s no wonder we performed above average for overall satisfaction in the Postgraduate Research Survey 2015 and that so many early career researchers choose to make Exeter or Cornwall their home.
Being an academic researcher takes commitment and dedication, and our Doctoral College is here to help you every step of the way.
