Multiscale Biomechanics

Our multiscale biomechanics research is generating new knowledge on the mechanics of biological structures and systems ranging from cell membranes to whole organs such as the spine. We are also developing new methods and technologies that provide novel insight into the mechanics of biological materials.

Using a wide range of optical, magnetic, mechanical and modelling techniques, we are investigating the fundamental relationships between mechanics, composition and structure and determining the factors that affect mechanical behaviour.  Collaborations with academic, clinical and industrial partners are allowing us to apply our knowledge and novel technologies to a variety of biological and medical applications.
