Level of service
Human Resources will:
- Provide regular and timely information regarding fixed term staff.
- Advise Colleges on contractual and statutory rights of staff on fixed term contracts.
- Support Colleges in managing the termination procedure when fixed term contracts are not renewed.
Key indicators
Key indicators for this activity are:
- No Employment Tribunal claims for failure to follow procedure.
- Employees on fixed term contracts are given reasonable notification of the renewal or non-renewal of their employment.
- Employees whose contracts are not renewed receive a redundancy payment with their final salary payment from the University.
- Business plans and staffing establishments are amended accordingly.
Performance targets
Subject to the Dependencies below:
- 95% of authorised forms/instructions will be actioned within two weeks of receipt.

Redress
Complaints about aspects of the service should be made to your College HR Business Partner in the first instance. In the event that the customer/client remains dissatisfied following informal discussion with the HR Business Partner, the issue should be raised in writing with the Director of Human Resources who will normally respond within 5 working days.
Dependencies (Colleges)
To operate effectively in this service area, Human Resources requires:
- Colleges to submit clear and accurate authorised forms/instructions in reasonable time before the expiry of the current fixed term appointment.
- the College identifies an appropriate manager to take decisions on behalf of the College in accordance with the appropriate procedure(s).
- That the appropriate manager and the member of staff (and, any representative) are available for meetings under the appropriate procedure(s).

- the availability of resources from other Professional Services (including. CaP and Finance Services) to support this process.
