All of our Challenges topics link to the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, such as committing to take urgent climate action (13) and promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies (16).

Challenges Online

Grand Challenges has now finished for this year. We will release information on Grand Challenges 2023 in the next academic year on our Grand Challenges website. In the meantime, follow us on @gc_exeter to check out the events of GC2022 and find out information as it is released!

We designed Challenges Online, an online programme based on our in-person Grand Challenges, to offer students a similar opportunity remotely during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Challenges Online ran in 2020 and 2021. Grand Challenges is returning with most Challenges in-person, and one Challenge online, in June of 2022. This webpage is now a historical page.

Challenges Online was a project week in which students worked in interdisciplinary groups with other like-minded students to design innovative solutions to real-world sustainability problems. Top academics and invited speakers shared their views and helped students apply their skills and knowledge to the questions and issues that they are most passionate about. Students developed their transferable skills including teamwork, presentation skills and project planning. Following the Challenges Online week, the University offers Challengers support to continue with their projects and make a longer term impact.
