Role

Alex leads the Environment and Clean Growth Team spearheading and supporting collaborative research, partnership and impact development with industry, NGO's and government partners. 

The Team works across a wider range of disciplines and sectors supporting and leading on partnership development, research impact, innovation, collaborative/contract research and consultancy. We engage with a wide range of sub-sectors including circular economy, bioeconomy, food systems, international development, climate change and low carbon agenda, conservation, renewable energy, responsible mining and resource efficiency. 

The Team also manage key strategic and corporate relationships including the National Trust, CEFAS, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the Met Office, Shell, South West Water and many other regional partners.

Profile

Alex joined the University more than 10 years ago but has spent more than 20 years working at the interface of science, innovation, research, business and society.

He has a wide range of experience working for a number of regional, local and international organisations in both the private and public sector, has been a director for several successful companies and has a proven track record in bid writing and fund raising. He remains a Director of 3 environmental charities. He has good networks and links across the environment sector regionally and internationally.

Alex has also worked as a core team member of a number of specific research and impact projects, notably the Tevi Programme, Green Infrastructure for Growth, Agri-tech Cornwall, South West Environment and Economic Partnership, NERC Innovation Project TELLUS HOW and Sustainable Intensification Platform and Professor Katrina Brown’s prestigious AXA Outlook Project 'You Me and Our Resilience: Cross cultural insight into poverty, climate change and resilience.'
