We are delighted to welcome The Wolfson Foundation into the University of Exeter’s College of Benefactors.

The Wolfson Foundation is a long standing supporter and partner of the University of Exeter. In 2004 the Trust helped the University improve postgraduate facilities at the Peninsula College of Medical and Dentistry, whilst its support of Biosciences in 2007 resulted in the development of ‘The Wolfson Imaging Unit’ – a suite with state-of-the-art optical, laser and electron microscopes and image analysis software.

Most recently, The Wolfson Foundation joined with the Wellcome Trust to grant £4.5 million towards a cutting-edge centre for translational medicine at Exeter. The Wellcome Wolfson Medical Research Centre is a £19 million investment in the power and potential of research, innovation, learning and development by The Wolfson Foundation, Wellcome Trust, the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and the University. The centre, based at the NHS Trust’s Wonford site, will provide a unique and inspirational teaching and research facility close to the University’s Medical School at St. Luke’s campus, and is due to be completed later this year.

The Wolfson Foundation supports and promotes excellence in the fields of science and medicine, health, education and the arts & humanities. All funding is based on expert peer review. Over £1 billion in real terms has been awarded in grants to some 8,500 projects over the last 57 years.
