Rooms available to book
Our facilities and equipment are available for use by HASS staff and students, to enhance teaching, research and project work. We welcome enquiries about booking our space and equipment, and you can get in touch with us by email to discuss your requirements.
Digital Humanities Seminar 1
Seminar Room 1 is a bright, versatile space, popular for teaching as well as holding meetings and workshops, and contains our 5760 x 3250 resolution videowall, which can be set up for presentations or for group work and is compatible with a wide variety of devices for sharing content via the AirServer. The Seminar Room can be arranged in to a number of different layouts including boardroom and lecture styles with or without tables. Please email us if you would like to book this space for teaching.
Digital Humanities Seminar 2 (B.02)
Seminar Room 2 is bookable through the central room bookings system, and is particularly suited to small-group screenings for film and video material. The room is supported centrally and not by the DH team.
Breakout space
Our breakout space can be used for ad hoc discussions, groupwork and meetings. There are three pod areas available to use informally or to book, each clustered around a display screen which can be connected to display from a laptop.
Makerspace
Our Makerspace features Bambu Lab, Elegoo, Formlabs, and Ultimaker 3D printers for 3D design, processing and printing, offering both filament (FDM) and SLA resin printing capabilities.
Lab 1 - Photography
Lab 1 is our primary photography lab and is equipped with a Guardian copy stand and a Phase One camera for high-quality 2D digitisation. It is used for digitising flat materials such as photographs, posters, letters, and loosely bound or fragile books
Lab 2 - Photography, 3D image capture and training
Lab 2 is a flexible, multi-purpose space designed for portable equipment that requires a controlled environment. It features daylight-balanced overhead lighting and accommodates demonstrations and training sessions for groups of up to 20 people. The lab is set up for book copy stand photography, photogrammetry, and Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI), and includes facilities suitable for conservation-safe handling of bound volumes and small-scale materials.
Lab 3 - Audio Visual
Lab 3 is a dedicated audio-visual studio that can be booked for recording and editing sound and video for educational and promotional content, including podcasts. It features an L-shaped main studio suitable for two-camera video interviews, an acoustically designed environment to ensure high-quality audio recording with minimal external noise, and professional podcasting equipment, including a Rodecaster Pro.
