Our Exeter PGR Development Needs Analysis (DNA) is designed to support you to take control of your professional and career development no matter your stage of postgraduate research. The aim is to encourage you to think more deeply about your development and career aspirations, by helping you to:

By populating the DNA with examples from your experience, you will begin to see patterns in how you learn, grow, and respond to challenges.

Why do I need to complete a Development Needs Analysis (DNA)?
Your DNA will help you to establish your existing skills and knowledge and to put in a plan of action to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge to successfully complete your postgraduate research studies and move into your career beyond.
How do I complete my DNA?
There is a full guidance document to support you completing your DNA. Please refer to it and the examples that are given to support you.
What happens to the form?
When you have completed the form, please ensure you share it with your Supervisor(s), and discuss it before finalising it. You should then sign it (manually or electronically) and upload it to your MyPGR. You must upload your DNA to MyPGR within the first 6 weeks of study and then annually thereafter.
Where do I find information about the training available to me?
Training for you as a PGR student is provided both within your Faculty and through the University’s Doctoral College Researcher Development Programme.
If you have any training needs that cannot be met through the Researcher Development provision or within your discipline, you must notify your Faculty as soon as possible.
