Support for Early Career Researchers (ECRs)
There is a wealth of support available to Early Career Researchers (ECRs) here at the University of Exeter. Below are some links to key pages to support you as an ECR.
For those who have recently joined the University, hear from the senior team about the support available to ECRs at Exeter.
Each term, the Researcher Development and Research Culture Team hosts in-person and online welcome events for new Early Career Researchers (ECRs).
All new members of research-active staff will receive an invitation to an ECR Welcome Event. These sessions offer the opportunity to meet with the Researcher Development Team, learn about the communities, opportunities, activities and training available to you and to meet and network with your peers all to be enjoyed alongside coffee and cake!
Anyone interested in attending must register beforehand.
If you are a new member of research staff but have not received your invitation to attend, please contact the Researcher Development Team at researcherdevelopment@exeter.ac.uk who will be happy to sign you up for the next available welcome event.
All the information you need as a new member of research staff can be found on our Early Career Researcher Hub. Here you will find all of the support, opportunities and resources available to you.
The ECR Town Hall Events are in-person, on campus get-togethers for ECRs to build community, socialise, share experiences and make connections. The Town Halls take place termly and are seen as an informal and social opportunity to get together with other ECRs to share experience, network and get to know others. There will be opportunities to discuss issues affecting ECRs and to share practice around a key theme. It will not have a formal structure, however ECRs will also have the opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts on topics such as, for example, the types of training and development opportunities they would like to see more of as well as other conversations.
Early Career Research Networks (ECRNs) are designed to help support our Early Career Researchers in the beginning stages of their career.
The ECR Liaison Forums are a fantastic opportunity for Early Career Researchers to meet and discuss what their community needs from the University.
The wellbeing of our ECRs, is of high importance to us, our ECR wellbeing webpage lists some of the support available to you as a member of staff.
There are a number of employment services within HR that are available to ECRs, as listed on our employment webpage.
