Early Career Researchers: Activities & Training

A key goal of ExCMS is to support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) at the University of Exeter in developing skills within the Mathematical Sciences. Because of the move to quantitative research across academia, a wide range of PhD students, research staff and other staff within the university need to access and use advanced techniques and results from mathematical sciences.

We aim to provide a forum as well as occasional specific events to support ECRs and their supervisors. Since researchers are embedded within a wide variety of Departments and Institutes we aim to provide a mechanism to develop and nurture links with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in an informal and organic manner.

We note we can provide signposts to more formal structured training, for example via one of our taught courses. See the links below for a full list of courses taught by the Mathematics and Statistics department:

If there is sufficient interest we may be able to develop bespoke or targetted training courses in some aspects of mathematical sciences, ideally for incoming cohorts of ECRs. Contact us to start the conversation! Otherwise, keep an eye out for the various ECR focussed events we’ll be organising throughout the year.
