Prof. Giovanna Colombetti is a Philosopher with a background in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. She works primarily in the fields of embodied and situated cognition, with a particular interest in emotion and other affective phenomena.
Her approach to research and teaching is pluralistic and interdisciplinary, drawing liberally from phenomenology, analytic philosophy, theoretical and experimental work in the cognitive and social sciences, and beyond.
She is the author of several publications, including the monograph The Feeling Body: Affective Science Meets the Enactive Mind (2014, MIT Press).
She has recently completed a second monograph, forthcoming with MIT Press, titled Feeling with Things: Toward a Theory of Material Affective Scaffolding. This works advances new theoretical reflections on the various ways in which humans use material objects and spaces to alter and shape their affective life.
She is also a member of EGENIS (The Centre for the Study of the Life Sciences) and coordinates its Mind, Body, and Culture research group.
