Exeter Food Waste Fighters 

Exeter Food Waste Fighters looks to collect food at its sell-by date and re-distribute it to local schools, food kitchens and elderly homes. This will then reduce not only food waste, but also school food budgets and hopefully decrease the number of children suffering from food poverty in Exeter. A big part of Grand Challenges week for this group was research, and they learnt that currently 1 in 7 children in Devon go hungry while, due to the lack of food waste bins, uneaten food makes up to 24% of a household’s dustbin in Devon. This initiative also involves putting up posters in schools to get children thinking about food waste.
