Music at Exeter
The University of Exeter is an excellent place to pursue extra-curricular music activity, whether you want to use the Guild’s Recording Studio, or go to a gig in the Great Hall.
Music at Exeter is primarily delivered by the Students’ Guild, along with the many Students’ Guild Societies. Other musical activity on campus comes from our renowned Chapel Choir. There is also a regular schedule of performances that happen in the Great Hall and the Lemon Grove, and workshops and opportunities from our Arts and Culture Team.
Guild Music
Music Membership
Through Music Membership, our current students can book rehearsal rooms, hire music instruments and equipment, use the Guild’s recording studio, access dedicated instrument storage on campus, have access to the on-campus Music Creator Suite, and have the contact details to Guild Affiliated Tutors, all for £12.50 for the year (2024/25).
(Music Membership is also available to current University of Exeter staff. Please email music@exeterguild.com for details.)
Music Tuition Scheme
The Students’ Guild runs an annual Music Tuition Scheme, where successful applicants get up to £300 of funded Music lessons. This scheme typically opens in October each academic year, with applications closing in early November, and funding running until July of the following year.
See the most up to date information on the Music Tuition Scheme here.
Student Societies
Exeter has a great number of musical student societies who put on high quality performances throughout the year. Whether you are interested in Musical Theatre, Jazz and Big Band Music, Folk, A Capella, or Orchestral Music, there is a society for you to find your people at the University of Exeter and perform the music you love.

Chapel Choir
The University of Exeter Chapel Choir is an auditioned ensemble of 26 musicians who sing the University Chapel’s liturgical services. The Chapel Choir tours places of worship around Devon, and on occasion further afield in the UK and abroad.
The Chapel Choir has choral scholarships for members of the choir. For the 2024/5 Academic Year, the value of this scholarship is £900.
Music events on campus
Live music can be found at the Great Hall, the Northcott Theatre and the Lemon Grove.
The Arts and Culture Team puts on a regular schedule of musical (and other Arts & Performance) events and opportunities.
We have a close relationship with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, who perform in the Great Hall throughout the year, and in recent years has supported the Students’ Guild’s Symphony Orchestra through annual workshops.
