Exeter Cares

The Exeter Cares Team is here to help undergraduate students if you are a…

Care leaver 

A young person (up to the age of 25) who has been looked after by a UK local authority for more than 13 weeks since they were 14, including some time at age 16 or 17.

Care experienced

 Any student who has been or is currently in care or from a looked after background at any stage of their life, no matter how short.

Estranged

A estranged student is a young person, who is under 25 at the start of their course, who has little or no contact with their parent(s) and that this is unlikely to change and or both a student's parents are deceased.

Student carers

A student who has unpaid caring responsibilities for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, a mental health problem, or an addiction, cannot cope without their support.

Mature learners

In higher education we define anyone starting their studies aged 21 or above as a mature learner.

Asylum seekers and refugees 

This includes students who are seeking asylum, have limited leave to remain (excluding under the EU settlement Scheme), are under ‘humanitarian protection’ or have refugee status.

We can offer advice and guidance with the application process, and make sure the right support is in place for you before you arrive. We'll also support you throughout your time at the University of Exeter, giving you the best opportunity to succeed

Here to help

We can help with a range of pastoral and financial support to help you succeed in your studies and reach your full potential. We have highlighted some of the support below,

 

Depending on eligibility we offer various forms of financial support in the form of bursaries & scholarships. We also offer advice and guidance on applying to student finance as an independent student. You can find out more about the variety of financial support available on these pages.

We have dedicated team members who are the named contacts for the Exeter Cares community in the Wellbeing Team. They are here to support you with any aspect of your welfare, whether you need it before you start your studies, during your studies, or even for a short time after you graduate. This can include emotional support, help with accommodation challenges, and pastoral support, both personal and academic. They are here to listen, offer advice, and connect you with the resources you need to succeed. More information can be found on our Wellbeing pages.

We run fun social events throughout the year as well as sending out a termly Exeter Cares newsletter.

Students who are part of the Exeter Cares Community will be invited to the Enhanced Induction Programme, to help settle those nerves before university begins.

We have dedicated named contacts in our Careers & Employability team who are there to support you with any careers guidance. You can arrange 1:1 appointments with them. Find out more about internships opportunities and so much more. 

Who are the Exeter Cares Team?

The Exeter Cares is made up of staff from across the university which includes named contacts in the Wellbeing Team and support from the Students’ Guild. We also work with other support services team members from across the university such as the Careers and Employability Team and the Peer Mentoring team. We work together to deliver and promote activities and opportunities.
