Parents and Carers

UPDATE: We would like to thank all staff who contributed to the working parents’ survey last month. We were thrilled to have so many of you come forward with feedback. Your views have informed our review of the University’s support for working parents.

We are pleased to announce that the University is rolling out sector leading benefits, for further information on each scheme please use the highlighted links. MaternityAdoption and Shared Parental pay will increase up to 26 weeks full pay; Paternity leave and pay is being extended up to 6 weeks full pay; and a new Fertility Treatment policy will provide up to 5 days of paid leave and 2 days for partners. This is available for staff who have a due date, babies born and babies and children placed on or after 6th April 2018 when changes to the statutory rates are applied. In addition there is a new managers’ handbook to help managers support employees on maternity leave and a new framework for Colleges to use for all staff who are taking leave as parents or carers. Over the next few months we will be updating these web pages to make them more user friendly.

The University is committed to supporting staff who maintain responsibilities as a carer alongside their job. Whether these responsibilities include caring for a child or caring for another dependent, we aim to work with our employees to facilitate a good work/life balance.

All our policies to support Parents and Carers aim to be inclusive and therefore apply equally to all staff including those in same sex relationships.
