Description

About this course:

This activity is for staff on R and E&R only contracts - grades E-G.

This session will be DELIVERED VIRTUALLY - joining instructions will be provided beforehand.

Dr Jonathan Doney will lead an interactive workshop on how to `Get Stuff Done' as an academic, drawing on twenty years of using and adapting the `Getting Things Done' approach developed by David Allen.

It will focus on developing a toolbox that allows you to get stuff done and survive the pressures, demands and expectations of being a PGR/ECR.

This interactive webinar will focus on how we keep track of and (re-)negotiate the commitments we make with ourselves and others.

Jonathan will share his experiences and share the tools that he has used and is using to keep all the plates spinning, whilst still finding time to enjoy the sunshine and relax.

This webinar will include: - Why a list of things to do is not enough.

- Your head is good for having ideas but not the best place to keep them.

- What are the key tools you need (there are not many!).

- How do I get things under control - and keep things under control?

Learning outcomes:

As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:.

- Better understand what gets in your way in terms of getting stuff done.

- Develop some initial practices that will help you avoid mental overload.

- Understand why `What is the next action?' is such an important question.

- Recognise that the solution to overload is not to work longer/harder.

- Know where to find more information and support in developing your toolbox.
