Professor Adrian Harris
Independent Member since August 2025
Professor Adrian Harris has been the Chief Medical Officer since April 2015 having qualified from the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1986 and trained in emergency medicine at St Mary’s Hospital in London, Southampton University Hospital and in Perth, Western Australia. Adrian has previously sat on the Council of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and is an honorary associate professor in healthcare leadership and management at the University of Exeter Medical School. Since April 1998 he has also held the role of Director of Sports Medicine for Exeter Chiefs and has helped shape the policies and procedures at a national level for safety and effectiveness of medical care for England RFU.
Further to endorsement by Nominations Committee (1 July 2024) and approval by Council (11 July 2024), Professor Adrian Harris (Chief Medical Officer, Royal NHS Devon) joined Council as a standing attendee from the Academic Year 2024-25 as part of a reciprocal relationship with NHS Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust. He has subsequently been appointed as a Class II Independent Member of Council in the Academic Year 2025-26 (from 1 August 2025).
