Golf Club Alumni

One of the University’s focus sports, our Student Golf Club is renowned for nurturing some of the brightest golfing talent as well as providing an environment for complete beginners to take up the sport. The club won the BUCS Premier South league in 2016/17 and 2017/18 as well as the BUCS Trophy Final in 2015/16, and has strong representation in individual tour events.

We host a number of golf events throughout the year that are open to all Exeter alumni. We are grateful to John Gilbert (Economics, 1972) and Rod Alexander (History, 1971) who lead on the organisation of our golf events through the Exeter University Alumni Golf Society (EUAGS). Three events take place annually as detailed below.

Alumni Golf Day

The headline event in the alumni golf calendar, the Alumni Golf Day is open to all University of Exeter alumni. This event is held at Worplesdon Golf Course in Surrey and takes a four-ball format. Alumni can enter as a team or can be assigned teammates of a similar year of graduation if required. Refreshments are provided upon arrival and a three course lunch is served after the round. An auction is held after lunch, with fantastic prizes generously donated by alumni. Proceeds from this event support our student golf programme. Senior invitation Golf Day

This pairs event takes place at Denham Club, open to all Exeter alumni and supporters over 40. Players go out in 4s and the format is such that concurrent competitions can take place during the round with prizes for competition winners and nearest the pin. The day includes refreshments on arrival and a two course lunch. To register yourself or your pair, please check our event listings and book online when available. If you register alone we will match you with a partner.

Northcote Trophy

This annual event sees a University of Exeter alumni team compete against a team of current students for the prestigious Northcote Trophy.

East Devon Golf Club and the Warren Golf Club in Dawlish Warren are the venues for the annual tournament. This thoroughly enjoyable weekend includes two rounds on courses that provide a challenge to golfers of all abilities. They offer the finest greens in the South West and afford breath-taking views of the Devon countryside and coast.

Players meet at 13:00 on Saturday for lunch with the first tee time of 14:30 and on Sunday the end of play is followed by lunch and prizes at 14:00. This match is between teams of 12, with a traditional meal on the Saturday night bringing past and present students together. This competitive and fun event encourages attendees to share their experiences of student life at Exeter.
