Director and Team Heads
Shaun leads the University’s supporter engagement and fundraising activities in the UK and overseas, and is responsible for the delivery of the University’s largest ever fundraising Campaign ‘Making the Exceptional Happen’, which aims to raise £60,000,000 by 2020. Over £57,000,000 and 80,000 volunteering hours have been secured to date.
Shaun joined the University as Director of International Exeter in August 2009, where he established and delivered successfully the University’s first, fully-integrated ‘Internationalisation Strategy 2010-2015’. Throughout this period Exeter’s international student population grew by 70% to over 4,000 students from 130 countries.
Previously, Shaun was the inaugural Head of the UK Higher Education International Unit (now Universities UK International) influencing, informing and advising universities, agencies, devolved authorities and governments on the opportunities of internationalisation, and delivering a range of bilateral education agreements between the UK and overseas governments.
Over three decades Shaun has worked in the public and private sectors in several countries, including as Research Manager at the Economic Development Office of the City of London Corporation. He has conducted freelance work for the Central Intelligence Agency, Jane’s Defence and others. Shaun holds a BA in Politics and an MA in Middle East Politics from the University of Exeter, and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto.

Jonathan leads the Philanthropy team within Global Advancement, supporting the creation of long-term and sustainable philanthropic strategies across the Campaign’s six themes.
Prior to joining Exeter, Jonathan ran Development programmes at Exeter College and St John’s College Oxford and, most recently, was interim CEO at Dublin City University Educational Trust. He has worked around the world in educational roles and been a Director of several companies including the Lamb & Flag, Oxford and Husky Finance, a fintech business.
David manages a diverse team that encompasses volunteering, regular giving, alumni benefits in the UK and Internationally, in addition to our events, communications and alumni relations programme. For the 10 years previous to joining the University, David has been involved predominantly in the charity sector, and has a wide range of experience in fundraising and marketing, latterly as a Director in an agency owned by a charity, the Aspinall Foundation.

Lisa graduated from Exeter with a MMath degree in 2003 and since graduation has worked in various roles across the Global Advancement team. Lisa now leads the Operations team, which is responsible for identifying potential supporters, managing the data of alumni and supporters, ensuring that financial donations are processed in line with donors wishes and that all donors are thanked appropriately for their support.

Olivia supports all areas of the Philanthropy team’s work, helping to organise meetings, travel and events, as well as administering systems and monitoring Campaign activity. She has worked at Exeter for just over two years, prior to which she was a Personal Assistant and Corporate Administrator at a housing association.

Tania is responsible for fundraising for the Medical School and the Living Systems Institute. Her works helps the world-renowned researchers to develop innovative new treatments, conduct clinical trials and improve patient care.
For the previous 17 years, Tania worked in fundraising for the arts and cultural sector working most recently at the BFI (British Film Institute). Prior to this she was at the British Museum, the Donmar Warehouse, the National Theatre and the Royal Academy of Arts.

Anna is a Senior Development Manager working with alumni and other supporters of the University to drive forward Exeter’s ‘Making the Exceptional Happen’ Campaign. Anna focuses particularly on development for Social Sciences, Business School, Humanities, and student support, leading on the ‘Society and Culture’ and ‘Tomorrow’s Leaders’ Campaign Themes.
Prior to joining Exeter, Anna worked for many years at the University of Oxford, most recently as a Senior Development Executive for the Bodleian Libraries, and as Deputy Director for Development at St Anne’s College.

Stephanie is Senior Development Manager within the Philanthropy Team, with a specific focus on developing a strategy for the Sustainable Futures theme of the Campaign. Prior to joining Exeter, Stephanie’s career has been in charity fundraising, most recently for CLIC Sargent, supporting children and young people with cancer. Stephanie is also a trustee on a local Environmental Trust.

Xiomara is a Senior Development Manager within the Philanthropy team, with a particular focus on international development and building relationships with alumni around the world. Xiomara previously managed the University’s legacy programme and prior to that worked in fundraising for Buffalo Fundraising Consultants, Birkbeck, University of London, the British Hen Welfare Trust and Blundell’s School.

Mark focuses on the ‘Tomorrow’s Leaders’ aspect of the Campaign which looks to increase and improve our Widening Participation work. He also works closely with the Law School and the Pathways to Law scheme.
Mark joined Exeter from the Charity sector having worked for a Hospice in Dorset, and most recently as a South West Fundraising Manager for Diabetes UK with responsibility for working with a wide variety of individuals, groups, organisations and Corporations in support of the charity.

Simon graduated from the University of Exeter in 2008 in Exercise & Sports Science. He was then elected Athletic Union President, a role that exists to ensure the quality of the student sporting experience. Simon has held various positions within the University since then before taking up his current role of Senior Development Manager. Simon also coaches the University's Men's Hockey 1st team and represented England at junior level in the sport.

Clare works on building relationships with alumni, former staff and the local community to help raise awareness of the Exeter Forever Endowment. Prior to joining Exeter, Clare worked both internationally and in London on events, including PR special events to celebrate the achievements of Nobel Laureates at a Russell Group institution, where she also worked to establish an international alumni relations programme with the philanthropy and student recruitment marketing teams.

Jess focuses primarily on securing support to grow and enhance our research and teaching in the area of Sustainable Futures - particularly areas such as Ecology and Conservation, Renewable Energy, Climate Change, Water Systems and Food Security. Jess has a variety of experience in Higher Education Development having held an Alumni Engagement role for three years; designing and delivering programmes of alumni engagement firstly in the College of Humanities and more recently for the sciences (College of Life and Environmental Sciences; College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences; Medical School).

Marie-Joelle supports academics across the University with grant applications and fundraising bids to a variety of charitable Trusts and Foundations in order to boost research at Exeter. She has got extensive experience in the Higher Education sector having previously worked in a number of research development roles at the Universities of Edinburgh and Sheffield prior to joining Exeter.

Susanna specialises in writing funding applications to charitable trusts and foundations for a variety of projects across the University. Prior to joining the University she worked in public health in the NHS for a number of years and then managed a small, local charity in London for over 13 years. This has given her an excellent understanding of the charitable sector and significant fundraising experience to bring to her current role.

Natalie leads on Exeter’s alumni engagement programme, guiding and working with Colleges, Student Employability and Academic Success (SEAS), and the Alumni Engagement Officers who are responsible for delivering each College’s Alumni Engagement Strategy. She has a First Class honours degree from Exeter in English Literature. Prior to joining the Global Advancement team, she worked for the National Citizen Service (NCS) in the South West as the Senior Schools Engagement and Graduates Manager; before that she worked at the University of Exeter in a number of roles including Outreach Officer in Student Recruitment and the Work-Related Learning Coordinator in Employability & Graduate Development, now known as SEAS.

Alison has been supporting alumni engagement for the College of Social Sciences for the past two years. This is her second role in Higher Education, having worked in the past at UCL developing course specific volunteering opportunities for students. Aside from this she has worked primarily in the charity field, beginning as a youth worker specialising in supporting young homeless people. She has been a volunteer manager within a number of different housing and children’s charities, previous to the university in a charity retail context.

Beth previously managed a careers and volunteer programme for a federation of schools before moving to the University of Exeter Business School where she has been for eight years. In her role as Alumni Engagement Officer in the Business School, Beth is responsible for devising and delivering a programme of alumni engagement for the School, in tandem with work across the Global Advancement team. In particular, Beth will focus on international alumni engagement, events and volunteering. The Business School’s volunteering programme has grown rapidly in the last few years, with volunteering hours having doubled since 2015 which has significantly contributed to the wider University’s alumni programme and Campaign targets.

Josh graduated from Exeter in 2013 having studied Italian, Spanish and Portuguese as part of his degree, which included a year abroad studying at the Università degli Studi di Urbino “Carlo Bo" and then interning with Giorgio Armani in Modena. After graduating, Josh worked in the Development and Alumni Relations office for almost 2 years in the Data Team before joining the Business School in March 2015.

Kate has worked at the University since 2010, first supporting Student Employability in both the Business School and the College of Engineering, Maths and Physical Science. Kate then spent 3 years with Event Exeter before providing cover as Alumni Engagement Officer for Humanities and Sport at the University of Exeter. Kate is now responsible for Alumni Engagement in Humanities at the University.

Rose joined Exeter University in 2018 following over a decade working in environmental charities including Bristol Zoo Gardens, The Wildlife Trusts and Sustrans. Supporting alumni engagement for CLES, CEMPS and UEMS she collaborates on a diverse range of projects and activities which keeps her on her toes!

Ruth is responsible for supporting alumni engagement for CLES, CEMPS and UEMS, where she collaborates on a diverse range of projects and activities. Ruth has previously worked in marketing, outreach and careers within different areas of the University including Social Sciences, the Medical School and the Business School.

Megan graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA (2016) and MA (2017) in English Literature. In her role as a Communications assistant she works with Emma Clark, the Communications Manager, and assists with alumni communications including the annual magazine, website, social media and email newsletters.
Prior to this role Megan worked in the College of Humanities as an Employability and Alumni Assistant for a year and a half, planning and delivering a range of events as part of the Employability programme which frequently involved alumni support, processed placement paperwork, and led on student communications.

Natalie is responsible for supporting alumni engagement in sport. Since graduating from Exeter in 2013, she has worked across various sporting events in and around London as well as yachting events on the South Coast. Natalie now works on delivering a programme of events and volunteer opportunities across the university’s sports clubs.

Emma is responsible for alumni communications including the annual magazine, website, social media and email newsletters, as well as supporting the philanthropy team and speech writing for senior staff. Prior to joining the University, Emma spent 10+ years in corporate marketing, media and PR across a range of industries.

Angela is responsible for delivering a wide range of alumni events across the UK including informal gatherings, black-tie receptions and seminars. As well as delivering events, Angela also provides professional advice for alumni events that are delivered by colleagues working in Colleges to ensure the consistency in standard, style and approach of University events is maintained.

Julie is the Alumni Relations Assistant for the Supporter Engagement Team. Responsibilities include; responding to alumni enquiries, providing admin support around the planning and management of alumni events, undertaking travel and accommodation bookings for the Supporter Engagement team. Prior to joining Exeter, Julie worked for the Devon Partnership NHS Trust and the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.

Rose manages the Regular Giving Programme and is responsible for delivering the mass fundraising strategy within Global Advancement, including telephone, direct mail and digital campaigns, ensuring this complements the University’s wider fundraising and engagement strategy. Rose also has experience of Alumni Relations and Employability, having worked within the College of Life and Environmental Sciences. Before joining Exeter in 2011, Rose worked as a Sales and Marketing Executive for a Higher Education Publishing Company, responsible for all of their direct marketing activity and managing a portfolio of accounts.

Before joining Exeter, Emily developed her career through a variety of fundraising, communications and programme manager roles, mainly within the charity sector, with a focus on sustainability, education and community development causes.

David leads the Data Team within Global Advancement, responsible for managing the database of alumni and supporters which underpins all of our fundraising and stakeholder engagement activities. Prior to joining the University, David worked for a number of local authorities and social housing organisations, in information management, regulatory and service improvement roles.

Josh ensures that our database of alumni and supporter records is kept up to date. Prior to joining Global Advancement in summer 2015, Josh worked on systems and data for the University’s employability service, including DLHE (the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education) survey, for almost three years. He is a Geography graduate from the Penryn Campus and jumped at the chance to stay in the South West.

Coming from a background in web advertising and account management Kayleigh joined the Global Advancement team in October 2016. She now holds a varied role within the operations team where she’s responsible for managing online event listings, coordinating a busy email schedule, data preparation and processing financial gifts.

Tom has worked in research at Exeter since 2015 and is responsible for identifying potential supporters and maintaining database records. Before joining the University he worked as a Marketing Consultant and Statistical Analyst. Tom also volunteers as a co-ordinator and commentator of football matches and Exeter City FC for Soccer Sight – providing communications for visually impaired fans.

Louise leads the Donor Relations team and is responsible for the delivery of an institution-wide Donor Relations programme that supports the University’s philanthropic strategies, and informs supporters about the impact of their gift. Prior to joining Exeter, Louise developed a career in fundraising within the charity sector, having worked with Cancer Research UK and the West of England School and College for visually impaired children and young adults.

An Exeter alumna, Kate supports the donor relations programme with a specific focus on scholarships, bursaries and other student awards, ensuring that donors receive timely feedback on the use and impact of their gifts. Kate also supports more generally on the wider donor relations programme. Prior to joining Exeter, Kate held a similar role at the University of Surrey.
