Angela Pedder is currently Chief Executive of the Royal Devon & Exeter NHS Foundation Trust. Her career started at the age of 18 when she joined the NHS in 1975 as a management trainee working in the North West Thames Regional Health Authority.

In 1987, at the age of 29, she was appointed to her first chief executive role as Unit General Manager, Community Services, in North Hertfordshire. In 1991 she was appointed Chief Executive of a challenged acute hospital trust, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead NHS Trust, to lead a major programme of service rationalisation, reconfiguration and service redesign to improve the quality of service for patients and eliminate a significant financial deficit.

Since 1996 Angela has been Chief Executive of the Royal Devon & Exeter Healthcare NHS Trust and has focused on improving the quality of care for local people and building the RD&E as a recognised provider of quality health care services, research and education. In April 2004 the RD&E became one of the first ten Foundation Trusts established within the UK.

In the 2007 New Year’s Honours List she was awarded an OBE for services to the NHS. More recently she has been appointed to the Department of Health’s National Provider Reference Board to provide advice on the implementation of the NHS White paper, Equality and Excellence: Liberating the NHS and the subsequent Health and Social Care Bill 2011.
