Barbara Frost has been Chief Executive of WaterAid since September 2005. During this period WaterAid has increased its coverage from 15 countries of Asia and Africa to 23 whilst retaining a clear focus on safe drinking water, improved hygiene and sanitation to the world’s poorest communities. A global strategy has been launched linking the work of independently governed WaterAids in the UK, America, Australia and Sweden and a new organisation, WaterAid International, has been formed.

Barbara was Vice-Chair of the UK’s Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) from 2002-2008 and is on the Board of WaterAid in Australia.

Prior to WaterAid, Barbara was Chief Executive of Action on Disability and Development, an international development organisation working with disabled people’s organisations in Africa and Asia. Before returning to work in the UK, Barbara worked for ActionAid, Save the Children and Oxfam Australia, spending four years in Mozambique and three in Malawi.

In her early career Barbara worked in Australia with the Federal and State governments, as well as with the voluntary and community sector. Prior to leaving Australia in 1989 for Mozambique she was a senior manager working for an $80 million parastatal organisation in New South Wales providing home support services.

She was educated in the UK before moving to Australia where she lived for 20 years prior to working in Africa.

Barbara has also been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Cranfield.
