Institute of Health Research

Focusing on research that reflects the needs of patients, health service providers and society as a whole, the Institute of Health Research works as a partnership with the NHS and other public bodies to bring improvements to public health.

The Living Systems Institute (LSI) brings together collaborative researchers together to focus on the fundamental mechanisms through which living systems operate and the perturbations and disruptions to these that lead to disease.

The European Centre for Environment and Human Health (ECEHH) conducts world-class research into the complex links between human health and the environment, including people living with dementia and how their sensory function engages with the natural world.

Supported by Alzheimer’s Society and working closely with the NHS. The Exeter Centre of Excellence in Dementia Care Research conducts large-scale national research studies into Dementia, including the IDEAL project: the largest study of living well with dementia in the UK.

The Centre for Research in Ageing and Cognitive Health (REACH) aims to improve the lives of older people through research focused on three main themes: maintaining cognitive health in later life, living well with age-related cognitive disability and dementia, and supporting family care.

Wellcome Wolfson Medical Research Centre

Wellcome Wolfson Medical Research Centre provides disease modelling and multi-factor diagnostics for a variety of conditions relevant to ageing. It is situated within the Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building at the RD&E Hospital.

Wellcome Centre on Cultures and Environments of Health

The Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health is dedicated to researching innovative approaches using evidence from humanities and social sciences to create effective public health initiatives that enable health and well-being across the life course.

Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD)

The state-of-the-art Research, Innovation, Learning and Development (RILD) building is a partnership between the College of Medicine and Health and the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E), and is part-funded by the Wellcome Trust and the Wolfson Foundation.
