Overview
In September 2018 I joined the Centre for Doctoral Training in Metamaterials. I had previously obtained a first class Masters degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Exeter having specialised in Biophysics. My Masters project investigated the use of graphene plasmonics for molecular fingerprinting technology. Since, I have undertaken a PhD project in the same field, hoping to better understand the underlying physics. I plan to design a hybrid device capable of improving the resolution and sensitivity of conventional infrared spectroscopy. This could have a wide range of applications in biological characterisation and protein secondary structure determination. The project is titled 'Nanoscale Infrared Biomolecule Spectroscopy'. As of August 2020, I undertook the role of Associate Lecturer in Natural Sciences. (Part time for 2 years alongside my PhD studies). This has been a great opportunity for me to help inspire the next generation of Natural Scientists, and have an input into the delivery of a course I am hugely passionate about.
