In conjunction with HASS Cornwall & the British Chamber of Commerce Germany, the Global Leaders Experience will be travelling to Berlin for the first time! 

Designed to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders, this programme offers a unique opportunity to explore critical global issues in a city known for its complex and storied history. Explore the city's origin as a trading post and subsequent influence and impact from periods of war as you develop skills in intercultural communication, team working and critical thinking.  

Whether your passions lie in justice, history, international law or diplomacy, this experience is your chance to develop your knowledge, skills and gain connections ready to make a meaningful impact in both your personal life and wider society.  

About the programme  

This Global Leaders Experience will take place between the 7th-11th June 2027.  

The itinerary of the week is still being confirmed, and further information will be shared once activities are confirmed. You can however expect to explore iconic monuments and museums over the course of 4 days, relating concepts and ideas from your degree programme to real-life situations. As a trip embedded within the careers service, gain valuable first-hand experience while developing crucial skills required for your future careers.  

Whether it’s to gain experience in a field of interest, help you gain further knowledge in your own and surrounding subjects or even experience a new city for the first time - this programme is the one to go for!  

Berlin 

So, why Berlin?  

Germany's capital city was once a place of division and segregation with a long past of historical conflict. In current times, Berlin pays tribute to these events and continues to develop as a welcoming city with a mix of cultural diversity. Here you can step into a world of history and learn the policies and decisions made to unify and overcome a turbulent past.  

Don't forget about your free time! While in Berlin you will have the opportunity to explore and take part in activities outside of the scheduled programme time. Enjoy the everything the city has to offer with world-class museums and landmarks, waterfronts and a vibrant nightlife.  

Reflection 

Your participation in this programme will include producing a reflection piece. This is an ungraded piece of work to assist you in your personal development and provide additional opportunity to reflect on skill development as you prepare for your future careers.  

Accommodation 

We are currently in the process of booking accommodation. Once a location is confirmed we will update the website accordingly. Please note that you will be room sharing, which will be on the basis of 2 students per room minimum.  

 

Travel 

We are currently in the process of looking into travel for this trip. Once this is confirmed we will update the website accordingly.  

Eligibility criteria  

  • You must be enrolled on an undergraduate, Cornwall HASS degree programme at the time of this trip. 
  • We particularly welcome applications from students who meet the widening participation criteria 26-27.pdf. Spaces will be ringfenced for students who meet this requirement 
  • You must be a second or final year student 
  • You can travel to and from the UK between the 7th and 11th June 2027.   
  • Not currently on a placement year or study abroad year.   
  • Have an up-to-date passport with more than 6 months validity from date of return.    

Managing Expectations     

  • The global travel sector remains impacted by well publicised strikes, cancellation and disruption.     
  • Please be ready to follow any national or local guidance in relation to travel, such as passport validity for Germany.  
  • If you are an international student, please check in advance visa requirements and costs essential for entry. Visa costs are not covered by the university. We will supply any travel documents required for your application.    
  • For home students, please be aware that the ETIAS travel authorisation might come into effect before this trip. We will notify you of any visa requirements before they take place. For more information please press here.  Visa costs will not be covered by the University.  
  • Students are expected to travel to and from the UK as part of a group for the trip.   
  • Students will be sharing accommodation. Please see our FAQs for further information.   
  • There will be a pre-departure session which you need to attend ahead of the trip.   

Cost  

The University of Exeter will be booking return travel from the UK departure point, accommodation and travel insurance on your behalf; the cost of which will be covered by the University.     

How do I apply?

Applications can be made HERE. The deadline for applications is Friday 11th December at 23:45 

Please note that we do not accept students on a first come first serve basis. We wait until the deadline has passed to shortlist, so please take your time with your application. 

There is a second stage of application in the form of an assessment centre which you will be invited to after an initial round of shortlisting. If you are invited to an assessment centre, you will receive information in early January 2027.
