LLB Law with International Study (2018)

What did you enjoy about your degree programme?

I switched from LLB Law to the four-year programme which gave me the opportunity to study abroad for a year in Wollongong, Australia. I had a blast exploring the jaw-dropping coastlines, growing an international network of friends and even learning a little bit about the Australian legal system.

Tell us about the award you have received. What does this award mean to you?

I am very proud to have received the Bloomsbury Insurance prize for achieving the highest mark in Insurance Law. The module was fascinating: I was shocked to learn how harshly the law treated consumers of insurance before the recent reforms. Winning the award is especially meaningful since it has reaffirmed my aim to pursue a career in this area.

What has been the highlight of your time at Exeter?

Competing at Lincoln’s Inn in the final of the Devon Chambers Mooting Competition was an unforgettably terrifying and rewarding experience, surpassed only by the Fight Night boxing match I participated in which took place in the University’s Great Hall.

What will you miss the most about University?

I played 6-a-side football in the University’s intramural league every Sunday for the entire duration of my degree and life feels a bit empty without it.

What advice would you give to current and future students?

Learning how to study is perhaps more important than the studying itself. Read some books dedicated to study-skills for your specific course. For law, I’d recommend ‘Letters to a Law Student’ by Nicholas McBride. Don’t work long, work smart.

What are your plans now that you have graduated?

My plan is to take the LPC and move into practicing law at a London-based firm. I am drawn to insurance law and corporate law, but all options are on the table.
