Master of Law in International Commercial Law (LLM) (2108)

‘I found my passion for Intellectual Property Law. It is definitely the crossroads between art and law.’

What inspired you to do further study at Exeter?

I wanted to boost my employability by taking commercial modules in order to gain a competitive edge compared to other graduates applying for training contracts.

I was also very interested in the Intellectual Property Law modules like Copyright Law and Trademark Law as I did not do an Intellectual Property module during my LLB but heard great things about it. The fact that Dr. James Griffin and Dr. Karen Walsh were excellent lecturers was also the reason I decided that I would regret it if I did not do an LLM after my LLB at Exeter.

What’s the main thing you got out of your course?

I found my passion for Intellectual Property Law. It is definitely the crossroads between art and law. As someone from a creative background, I fell in love with IP law.

I was very undecided on what kind of law I wanted to practise before my LLM. Now I am certain that I want to work in a firm which has a strong IP practice.

What advice would you give to others thinking about taking your course?

The LLM helps you gain a deeper understanding of your favourite areas of law before diving into a lifelong career of law, so definitely enjoy it while you can!

What are you doing now that you have graduated – could you give some detail on your next employment/further study opportunity and future plans?

I am currently doing my LPC at BPP University, Bristol. I am planning to practise law at a Bristol-based law firm.
