MA English Literary Studies : Criticism and Theory
Programme overview
Are you driven by intellectual curiosity, interested in the ‘big’ questions, and attuned with conceptual and abstract modes of thought? If so, then Criticism and Theory is the pathway for you. Designed and delivered by Professor Regenia Gagnier, Dr Paul Young and Dr Alex Murray, these modules offer a fascinating and unique insight into the roots, branches and current flowering of the specific area of English studies we call ‘criticism and theory’.
You can select either of the modules in this area as a discrete ‘option’, or you can take both and complete your dissertation in the field of criticism and theory, which gives you the pathway title in your MA degree. This pathway allows you to follow research questions beyond a particular historical moment in English literary and cultural history. Criticism and Theory modules may also be taken alongside one of the other pathways, as the questions under study impact on all fields of English studies.
