Applying after the guarantee deadline
We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to the University of Exeter. Once you’ve firmly accepted your study place, you are welcome to apply for accommodation. However, as we prioritise applications from students who applied within the accommodation guarantee deadline, it is unlikely we can make you an offer. Our availability won't be known until quite close to the start of term, so you may prefer to secure accommodation in the private sector instead. You can find information on our website about private accommodation, the housing areas which are close to campus, and transport links around the city.
If we are able to offer you accommodation it is most likely to be in one of our off-campus residences. Exeter is a lovely, small city and living off campus has the benefit of being close to the city centre and it is still within walking distance to both Streatham and St Luke's campuses. To get an insight into what living off campus may be like take a look at this accommodation video featuring students living off campus.
It might be that you prefer to find your own accommodation off campus, which you can easily find using our walking distance map, showing all purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) in Exeter. PBSAs offer a very similar living experience to our own halls of residence and many have additional facilities such as study spaces, large communal social areas and gym/fitness rooms. For more advice on private accommodation, take a look at our private accommodation webpage.
For more information please choose from the appropriate drop-down:
If the University was your insurance or clearing choice or you've received a place through adjustment, you can apply for accommodation once your course offer is confirmed.
Please note - it can take up to two days for a firmly accepted offer to be transferred from Admissions to our accommodation system and therefore you will not be able to activate an accommodation account immediately. In most cases it will take between 24-48 hours for the information to reach our accommodation system. Please refer to the next set of drop-down options for details on how to apply.
When you make an accommodation application after the guarantee deadline, you will not be able to specify your preferred residences. You will be asked to indicate your preferred catering basis (i.e. catered or self-catered), room type (standard, en-suite or studio) and contract length. As availability will be limited, we cannot guarantee we'll meet any of your preferences.
How likely am I to be allocated University accommodation?
We will do our best to house as many new students as we have spaces available. The likelihood of being able to offer accommodation to insurance/clearing applicants varies each year and is dependent on the number of guaranteed applicants whose study place is then confirmed after exam results have been released.
Please note that post-guarantee applications are processed in date order of receipt (a first come, first served basis).
If you submit an application for accommodation, we will provide updates to you via email and will advise you by early September if we are able to offer you accommodation. Our Accommodation Blog also provides updates.
What happens if you are unable to offer me University accommodation?
If we are unable to allocate you to University accommodation you will need to make your own arrangements for private accommodation in the city. We encourage you to look at the Student accommodation in Exeter map which provides a handy list of student accommodation showing locations and walking distances.
If you are an International postgraduate student applying for accommodation at the University after the guarantee deadline date, we will process your application in date order from when it was received (a first come, first served basis).
