Whether you're coming to Exeter for a full year or one semester, we look forward to welcoming you to the University.
Full year students
If you're coming for the full year starting in September 2023, you will fall under our accommodation guarantee and you will be able to apply for accommodation from 9:00am on Monday 3 April 2023. We will consider your application along with other home and international undergraduate students.
Short term Study Abroad, International Exchange and Erasmus students for academic year 2023-24
If you are joining us as part of a Study Abroad and International Exchange* programme for one semester you will be able to apply for accommodation. Application opening dates vary depending on whether you are joining us in Semester 1 or Semester 2; please refer to our When to Apply page for more details. We have a limited number of rooms available and applications will be dealt with in date order of receipt of your application.
(*Due to the limited number of bedspaces available for semester students, we are currently only able to accept applications for University accommodation from students studying for their first semester programme. Students who are returning to complete a further semester programme will need to secure private accommodation in the city).

Making an application 2023-24

Prior to applying for accommodation at James Owen Court, please note the following:
- You are unable to apply for your accommodation until your Study Abroad and International Exchange application has been processed by the Global Opportunities Inbound Team and you have been issued with your University of Exeter Student ID number.
- Once you have accepted your offer, you have entered a legally binding contract and you will be expected to make the payment in full for the entire length of your accommodation contract as detailed in the table above.

When applying, please ensure you select the appropriate application form which will be: ‘Senester 1 St Abr/Exchange’ - for international exchange students coming from one of our partner institutions or if you are a study abroad fee-paying student coming to Exeter for one semester.
*Please note if you have exams on the same day as your contract end date, you will need to vacate your room by 10:00am on that day and you will be responsible for making appropriate storage arrangements for your belongings.

*Students who are joining us for the second semester should be aware that the date to move in is Sunday 14 January 2024. We cannot accommodate early arrivals.
