Catering and Retail Services Team Achieve 3 Star SRA Rating

As part of our membership with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, the University Catering and Retail Services team is delighted to have, once again, achieved a 3 star rating in the SRA Food Made Good Sustainability standard - the highest possible grading.

The Sustainable Restaurant Association set the standard for sustainable food and drink businesses around the world. The purpose of the standard is to encourage, support, recognise and celebrate sustainability practices across the F&B sector driving  positive change to build better food systems. They begin by auditing current practices in a range of criteria, then make a series of recommendations for improvement.

The areas assessed include:

  • Sourcing - From local and seasonal ingredients, to sourcing meat and fish responsibly and supporting global farmers
  • Society - Demonstrating responsible behaviours, such as treating staff fairly, supporting the community and feeding people well
  • Environment - Reducing our footprint, wasting no food and making every effort to reduce, reuse and recycle

We are thrilled to be awarded the 3 star accolade again. Across all three pillars, our greatest improvement relating to 'sourcing' is testament to the teams continuous efforts to demonstrating a strong approach to sustainable sourcing and the SRA were impressed with the development of the Kitchen Garden and the utilisation of its produce on campus.
