Catering and Retail Services Team Achieve 2 Star SRA Rating

As part of their membership with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, in Autumn 2019 the University Catering and Retail Services team achieved a 2 star rating in the SRA Food Made Good Sustainability standard.

The Sustainable Restaurant Association help organisations to move towards a better food system in many areas of their business. They begin by auditing current practices in a range of criteria, then make a series of recommendations for improvement.

The areas assessed include:

  • Sourcing - From local and seasonal ingredients, to sourcing meat and fish responsibly and supporting global farmers
  • Society - Demonstrating responsible behaviours, such as treating staff fairly, supporting the community and feeding people well
  • Environment - Valuing natural resources, wasting no food and making every effort to reduce, reuse and recycle

The University team were thrilled to be awarded the accolade, scoring particularly highly in celebrating local and seasonal food; supporting global farmers, particularly though our work with the Fairtrade Foundation; treating staff fairly and through our efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Unfortunately we have been unable to participate in the SRA assessment since 2019 due to the impact of covid and the closure/ partial closure of campus, therefore operations were not available to be assessed. We are pleased to announce that assessment will take place again in 2022.
