Handshake
What is Handshake?
Handshake is an early careers network and careers management platform which allows our students and graduates to discover employers and opportunities, submit applications, and attend career fairs and other events.
As we introduce My Career Zone, our new careers platform, Handshake is being gradually phased out and will be fully retired by the summer.
During this transition period, students will continue to use Handshake for some functions while additional features, events and job opportunities are added to My Career Zone. For now, students may need to check both platforms to access the full range of opportunities available to them.
We will communicate directly with anyone affected by specific changes as we move towards fully transitioning to My Career Zone.
Staff Access on Handshake
We allow staff who are working with students to access Handshake in order to help them assist students, e.g. view events and jobs they might recommend to students. If you are a member of staff who wants access to a 'student view' in order to help students then you can create an account as follows.
Please note: content on the system, such as events, are for students and graduates only.
- Visit https://exeter.joinhandshake.co.uk/
- Click on Sign up here (accounts are only pre-created for students, so you will get a message saying 'there is no account on file' don't worry that's normal!)
- Enter your staff @exeter.ac.uk email so we can verify you are a member of staff
- Follow through the screens
- Where it asks for your date of birth/previous educational establishment -enter the word 'Staff'
If you are a member of staff who is a graduate and wants access for your own needs as a graduate, please visit the Careers Support for Graduates page for information about accessing your account.
All Student Employability and Academic Success (SEAS) staff should have a 'Career Services' Handshake account. If you are a new member of staff and need an account, please ask your line manager to complete the Handshake new staff form. This account will allow you (via your staff credentials) to login to the admin part of the system and to add and edit content. You can also create a student view associated with that account in order to best help our students with their enquiries.
Once your account has been set up, to access Handshake log in using the 'Current Students and SSO' option using your University of Exeter staff single sign-on details.
To switch between your 'Careers Services Account' and 'Students Account' click on your name (top right) and then 'Switch Users'.
