Student Employability and Academic Success (SEAS)

About

‌SEAS is the University division that is home to Professional Services teams that support, and deliver support and educational experiences to enhance student careers, employability, employment, entrepreneurial competences and behaviours, personal and professional development, and experiential and interdisciplinary learning throughout the student journey. In addition to supporting the student experience, our services also include tailored support for prospective and pre-entry students as well as early career graduates and alumni.

Students, academics and departments are supported directly through dedicated SEAS support and teaching staff aligned to academic departments and Faculties, whilst students are able to access the services and support of SEAS directly through our ‘Career Zone’ branded front-line services and web-based portal that includes a comprehensive range of digital learning resources and job vacancies and opportunities available locally, nationally and globally. SEAS also delivers and co-ordinates the University ‘Progression’ portfolio of services for under-represented and disadvantaged students.

Our provision is delivered both centrally and throughout the curriculum and include a range of place-based learning opportunities managed through our partnerships with employers, alumni, business and sector intermediaries, service providers and Higher Education Institution partners within the UK and overseas. We work extensively with other University of Exeter Professional Services teams and also with our counterparts in the sector both in the UK and overseas.

SEAS works with careers system software providers in partnership but is not part of a 'combined' careers service with other institutions.

Terms of Reference and procedures for SEAS provision delivered within Faculties are available here.

Head of Student Employability and Academic Success

Mission Statement

It will educate students (our customer) to identify and achieve their ambitions, understanding the skills/experiences that contribute to the achievement of their goals through the provision of SEAS activities, enabling them to make the most of their education experience at Exeter.

SEAS will work with Colleges to provide the academic tools students require to successfully complete their studies. It will provide activities that provide relevant and fulfilling experiences including place-based learning and global experiences. It will aim to embed employability skills as part of the curriculum as a key delivery method alongside extra-curricular and personalised professional development.

SEAS will work with employers in all sectors to understand their evolving requirements, pre-empting their needs and able to adapt quickly, working in collaboration with other Professional Services in order to ensure students and academics receive relevant and timely services.

SEAS will evidence the outcomes achieved through delivery of its services, justifying how finite resources are applied across a large customer base. It will support students to recognise and acknowledge the benefits of these experiences and to utilise their value throughout their career.

The result will be;

  • Students that value the experience and how it contributes to achieving their goals.
  • Students that are satisfied and happy during their degree, and go on to a fulfilling working life.
  • Our graduates are in demand. UK and International employers value Exeter as a source of employment above and beyond others.
  • Academics that understand the student journey and are confidently able to support their students.
