Weekly, Monthly and Annual Events

Weekly

EI Seminars

The Environmental Intelligence Seminar Series is a joint initiative of the CDT and the Exeter Environmental Intelligence Research Network. The series of weekly seminars showcases EI research across all disciplines at the University of Exeter and provides a platform for external organisations to share their interests in EI with our community.

Monthly

EIAL

The EI Arts Lab will run as a series of workshops during the 2022/2023 academic year, culminating in an exhibition in Summer 2023. Check out this video for a visual introduction and see the attached slide deck for more information. The first workshop will take place on November 1st, so please sign up using the EventBrite link below. No art experience is needed. Each session will kick off with a lecture and guided discussion by Harriet Poznansky to learn about different artistic approaches and how you might use them to explore your own research topic. Then there will be some hands-on time to try it out for yourself, with no pressure or expectation. The aim is to explore your own research through a creative lens and try out ways of communicating your ideas to a general public.

Annually

Grand Challenge

The Environmental Intelligence Grand Challenge is our flagship annual event; a week-long hackathon-style data challenge in which teams work intensively on EI questions set by non-university partners. Previous Grand Challenges have been delivered in partnership with the National Trust, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, the MET office, Uplift, Wells Fargo, Federated Hermes and Friends of the Earth. Grand Challenge provide students with opportunities to acquire new skills and domain knowledge, work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams, and to explore new ideas and ways of working.

Working Retreat

A full two day residential event held locally. Here the students present their work in progress, collaborate to assist the newer students, contribute to panel discussions, discuss the future of the programme including our successful 'bright ideas' session as well as group discussions and talks from selected speakers. There is also time to take in relaxing grounds and scenery plus an evening social event.
