NHS - Your Data Matters

What is “Your Data Matters”?

The national data opt-out was introduced in May 2018, as the strict rules about how health and care data can and cannot be used was strengthened. Patients are now able to choose whether their confidential information is used for research or planning, or whether they would prefer to opt out of their confidential patient information being used for these purposes.

How does this effect the AccEPT Clinic?

The AccEPT Service, will review annually whether any of its data sharing practices require, or are likely to require, checking of the opt-out register. Where this is required, clinic staff will use the Message Exchange for Social Care and Health (MESH) to check the NHS numbers of patients for whom data is planned to be shared and remove the records.

How can I find out more?

Patients can view or change their national data opt-out choice at any time by using the online service. To find out more visit: www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters
