Study of the success of Disability DFE project creating step-change in local infrastructure/disabled participation in sport

About the research

Across the 2012-2013 school year, a multi-faceted team spanning the Graduate School of Education at University of Exeter and Faculty of Sport, Media and Creative Arts at University College Plymouth St. Mark & St. John have been undertaking an evaluation for DFE (Department For Education) of the success of Disability DFE Project.  This sought to create a step change in both the local infrastructure and the numbers of young disabled people participating, competing and progressing in sport, including supporting enhanced opportunities to participate in and transition from the School Games.  The intention is to provide an overarching view of the effectiveness of the local infrastructure (i.e. PE/School Sport, Community Sport and Talent Pathways); to provide opportunities for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to participate, compete and progress in sport, together with a single set of recommendations for future developments. study takes place across the 2012-2013 school year. The findings are to be integrated with the existing research and evaluation work on the CSPs (County Sports Partnerships) and NGBs (National Governing Bodies), commissioned by CSPN (County Sports Partnership Network), and the Playground to Podium Framework, commissioned by EFDS (English Federation for Disability Sport).
