Dr Chris Tibbs - Research Data Officer

Chris joined the University in October 2017, and has 10 years of experience as a researcher. Chris obtained his PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Manchester in 2010, and has worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the California Institute of Technology in the US, and as a Research Fellow for the European Space Agency in The Netherlands.

Chris now uses that experience to provide support to researchers in managing their research data by establishing and promoting good practice in digital curation and providing data management advice, guidance, and training. Chris is happy to provide assistance at all stages of the research lifecycle, from data management plans at the very beginning of a project, to preserving and sharing data in a repository at the end of a project.

Sofia Fernandes - Open Research Manager

Sofia joined the Open Research Team at the University of Exeter in March 2019. She has a degree and a master’s degree in Information Science obtained at Universidade do Porto in Portugal.

Sofia is the library functional expert for Open Research specifically in relation to Open Access publications and data. Leading the Open Research Team, she is responsible for the University’s Open Research strategy, namely the repository and research data services, ensuring the compliance with funder and Research England requirements whilst advocating the wider benefits of Open Research.

Sofia has more than ten years experience working in libraries in higher education institutions as a Repository Manager and Open Access specialist supporting the research community and Scholarly Communication.
