Career

Michelle studied her PhD at the University of Exeter under a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with HR Wallingford. Her PhD explored the use of multi-objective optimisation and real options in flood risk management, looking into ways of making decisions under severe uncertainty.  

Following her time at HR Wallingford, Michelle worked at the Smith Institute, a consultancy specialising in applying advanced mathematical modelling for clients in industry. In this role, Michelle was initially a Mathematical Consultant responsible for the delivery of projects, using a range of mathematical techniques, data analysis and software technologies for clients in defence, rail and fast-moving consumer goods sectors. Over time, she took on the role of Operations Manger responsible for resourcing and managing these projects.
