Reward Strategy
The University believes people should work in an environment where they are valued and where exceptional performance is recognised. Ensuring the University is a great place to work is about more than just the financial mechanisms we use to recognise performance, it’s about ensuring we have the right systems in place to recognise and reward groups and individuals who foster excellence in research and teaching and in the conduct of all professional activities.
The University's Reward Strategy was approved in July 2014 following a review of the University's reward policies and practices to ensure that the University’s approach towards reward was fit for purpose in the next phase of the University’s development.
The Reward Strategy sets out the following overarching principles. The University's Reward initiatives will:
- reward excellence and competency.
- be more transparent about the total reward package and how reward is determined.
- apply a consistent framework to reward which recognises different staff categories.
- further reinforce the embedding of equality in our approach towards reward.
- promote the total reward package (financial and non-financial).
- develop clear initiatives which facilitate career and reward progression.
- focus reward on positive stewardship of the University and legacy.
- clearly contribute to key University strategies.
- minimise bureaucracy while maintaining governance.
