Promotion and Progression
Here at the University of Exeter, we recognise and reward excellence in the work of academic colleagues in a variety of ways, including through progression and promotions. The Exeter Academic supports the development of your academic career and the achievement of the University’s Strategy 2030 through promotions processes which are clearer, simpler, flexible, more transparent and inclusive. Below you will find the guidance, timelines and documentation for our academic promotions process.
The next Exeter Academic promotions cycle will commence in November 2026. Further details will be published here at that time.
Below, you can find guidance and timelines from the 2025/26 cycle. The deadlines for 2026/27 will be shared soon.
Final promotion panels from the 2025/26 cycle will be completed in late September/early October 2026 and staff will have their outcomes communicated to them before the end of October 2026. We can confirm that back pay will be from August 2026.

Summary of Assessment Guidance
The supporting statement has been replaced with the Summary of Assessment, below is guidance on how to complete this alongside some examples:
