WP Networking Event - Thursday 20 November

Do you find networking daunting? Come and join us in the Forum, Streatham campus on Thursday 20 November for a networking event for students and staff from Widening Participation backgrounds.  Facilitated by Sue Tonks, an internationally acclaimed facilitator, explore how  to increase your confidence, develop your networking skills, and find out about the support available to help you with your studies, and learn about opportunities for further study at Masters and doctoral level.

The ‘Things worth knowing’ report (2024) states that young people without graduate parents are far less likely to understand the importance of networking. 13% believe it to be a waste of time, and 4% do not know what it is. Older interviewees identified networking as key to their successful transition into the workplace.

According to the Harvard Business School, up to 70% of jobs are not advertised, but are part of the hidden jobs market. Networking enables the development of social capital, communication skills and confidence, and the creation of community and friendship. Networking can benefit job progression as well as job seeking.

At this event you will have the opportunity to develop your networking skills and attend a Showcase event to find out more about the support available to you from the Career Zone, Library - for study skills and PGR Research Skills - Peer support programmes, the PGR Training and Development programme for doctoral students, the Aspire programme and others!

A free coach will be available for students to travel from the Penryn Campus to Streatham Campus

Complementary pizza will be available at the showcase!

Timings

Masterclass 1 – 10am-12.30pm

Masterclass 2 – 1pm-3.30pm

Masterclass 3 – 3.30-6pm

Networking Showcase 6pm-8pm. Please note, there is no need to book this if you have booked onto a masterclass.
