Auditions

Auditions for the Chapel choir take place annually, usually during the first week of the Autumn Term, and are open to students in all years – see Choral Scholarships for full terms of eligibility.

Prospective scholars should sing to approximately Grade 8 standard, have strong sight reading skills and preferably have experience of singing experience of singing in a church, chapel or cathedral choir.

Please see the role of a chorister for full details of what would be expected of you as a choral scholar.

Audition requirements are as follows:

• 2 contrasting pieces, prepared by the candidate
• Ear tests
• Psalm chanting – chanting Anglican and plainsong at sight
• Sight-singing tests

In addition to vocal quality, the expectations at audition are:

• exceptional sight singing skills
• general musicianship
• the ability to work to a high standard within a small group
