Kirah

Kirah is a second year Anthropology student from Cornwall. As a prospective student she was part of the Exeter Scholars scheme that encourages students from a range of different backgrounds to consider university.

I chose to come to Exeter because I wanted to stay reasonably close to home. I fell in love with the campus, the greenery and the blend of new and old buildings. I’ve made friends that I know are lifelong and I’ve had amazing experiences that I otherwise wouldn’t have tried, for example the Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels event on bonfire night.

I have found the coursework challenging at times but my lecturers have been brilliant in helping me to overcome this, and when you enjoy the subject you are learning it doesn’t feel like a chore. Being able to see my lecturers when I need to is one of the best things about the University of Exeter. Having that academic support base and knowing that you can always go to them for help is always reassuring when writing essays and prepping for exams.

I’ve felt homesick occasionally but usually a quick phone call home helps; otherwise I know I can count on my friends here to make me feel better.
