Horticultural Highlights
Streatham Campus is readily acknowledged as one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Built around an old country estate overlooking the city, it is home to many plant species, both ornamental and wild.
As a Registered Botanic Garden, Streatham Campus houses three National Collections of rare plants and several Champion Trees: the largest of their species in Devon (or England!) - see our Champion Tree Guide.
The gardens are managed by the University Grounds team, who balance traditional horticulture with sustainable practices, letting nature flourish while staying true to the history of the gardens and ensuring the grounds are enjoyable for everyone.
Originally the home of the famed Veitch family, the Streatham estate underwent many transformations throughout the 20th Century, including the formation of the University in 1955.
Much of the original garden design and even some of the original plants remain today and can be seen around Reed Hall.
Throughout its expansion, the University has remained committed to maintaining green spaces and nurturing a wide variety of rare and beautiful horticultural specimens, resulting in multiple awards including the Britain in Bloom South West Gold Award.
