Champion Trees Guide
The University of Exeter grounds have an excellent mix of tree species, some of which are representatives of original exotic species introduced in the middle of the 19th Century. The grounds include three Arboretums (tree collections) with a mix of evergreen and deciduous species, flowering trees and those with vibrant Autumn colours.
Champion Trees are considered the greatest of their species in the region. They are measured by a team of volunteers around the UK who support the Tree Register of Britain and Ireland (TROBI).
The data gathered is useful for assessing growth, age, and survival and is measured periodically.
There are around 70 Champion trees on the University grounds, of which only a few are featured in this guide.
