BA English

What has been the highlight of your time at Exeter?

The highlight of my time at Exeter was opting to study a creative writing module, where I wrote a screenplay and was given the opportunity to see my work come to life during a dramatized read-through.

What will you miss the most about University?

I will really miss having time that is specifically set aside to explore my intellectual interests. I will also miss the fascinating discussions that I had with my peers and various seminar leaders.

What did you enjoy about your particular programme?

I particularly enjoyed the flexible and wide ranging nature of my programme. During my English degree, in addition to studying literature from different time periods and genres, I exercised my freedom to study film and creative writing.

What advice would you give to current and future students?

I would advise current and future students to carefully study the module descriptions and overviews on the official website before making their choices in order to ensure they pick modules that most appeal to their interests. I also cannot stress enough how important it is to make use of seminar leaders’ office hours and to always alert your tutor about any difficulties that you may be experiencing. I know from personal experience that sometimes unforeseen events happen and it can leave you feeling very lost – tell someone – the University is here to help.

What are your plans now that you have graduated?

After having some personal time to focus on my health, I currently plan to do a MA in Creative Writing or Filmmaking. I am still debating on what area of postgraduate study I would find the most fulfilling.
