What it’s like to work in Exeter IT & Digital:

In my role I help to support and develop bespoke solutions within SharePoint Online and the wider Office 365 platform using Power Apps and Power Automate. I also help to support Office 365 enquiries that come through the IT Helpdesk.

What I enjoy about working in the Cloud Services team within Exeter IT is the wide and varied day to day work that comes in and the challenge to try and develop a solution. Since starting this role in December 2020, Exeter IT have given me the opportunity to pursue a change in career direction. They have supported me to make this transition whilst providing all the necessary training and encouragement to continually develop within the role.

James Fisher, Junior SharePoint Developer

In my role I lead project teams to implement and improve on systems and digital solutions that underpin many activities across the University. Leading project teams comprised of both technical experts and people from a wide range of disciplines, at such a highly respected organisation, makes it a varied and enjoyable role. What I like most about working in IT is the direct connection between the work we do and the positive impact on the student and staff experience. One project that stands out was the online graduation ceremony for the Medical Students, which was a really moving event.

When on campus there are plenty of good meeting places including the cafes for more informal discussions, and the campus grounds are great to explore during lunch breaks. Equally the sense of community and being part of a team makes this a great place to work.

Cara Winter, Project Manager

In my role as an IT Helpdesk Analyst, I work alongside the rest of the team to assist end-users who have IT issues, supporting them via phone or email. We are the first point of contact for IT issues, so the role involves problem solving techniques and we use range of tools, such as the TeamViewer screen sharing application to assist us.

This is my first ever IT role and so far I’m really enjoying it. The main reason is that I like to help people and I also get to learn about technology and IT processes. That’s the great thing with this role, you don’t always know what you are coming into which gives it great variety! I also work with a great bunch of people, especially our Team Leader Martin Bennie (he told me to write that bit! J)

Hopefully I won’t need to speak to you anytime soon, as this means you have no IT issues, but if you need assistance, we’re happy to help!

Mark Andrews, IT Helpdesk Analyst

In my role I support digital transformation and change at the University. The role is incredibly varied and fast paced as we all respond to the changing digital landscape and as the University evolves and responds. I also lead a team of students offering first-hand training and support on how to discover and use the digital tools all staff and students have access to.

I think this might be the most rewarding job I’ve ever done as the projects I’ve been involved in have delivered genuine benefits to the University and the people. As a result I feel appreciated when I’ve supported people and project teams. The management support I get is also fantastic as I feel that we are all working together and I’ve had lots of support balancing my family commitments with work.

A highlight for me was helping build the online and physical Digital Hubs to support staff and students. So far our online presence alone has been accessed by 21,000 people with 270,000 page views and we have lots of interesting plans for the future.
